Has Bitcoin Doubled This Year?
While Bitcoin hasn’t quite doubled in 2025, it did increase significantly:
Year-to-date gain: around 32%, with prices climbing from the low to mid-$80,000 range at the start of 2025 to over $124,000 in August . For a broader perspective: Bankrate reports about an 18% YTD increase as of early September . DemandSage similarly indicates around an 18.5% gain through early September, putting Bitcoin at roughly $110,700 .
So, Bitcoin did not double in 2025. A 32% rise is strong—but far from 100%.
Is the U.S. Dollar “in serious trouble”?
There’s growing concern about the dollar’s weakening position:
MarketWatch reports the dollar has lost about 10% of its value in 2025, the worst annual performance since the end of the gold standard. Rising U.S. debt and deficits, plus moves by China, Russia, and others to de-dollarize, are eroding confidence in the greenback . Ray Dalio warns of a potential “economic heart attack” driven by debt stress, rising bond yields, and investor moves toward gold and Bitcoin as alternatives to dollar-denominated assets .
There’s also evidence that central banks are buying gold en masse—plus increasing interest in Bitcoin and other crypto instruments—as part of their hedging strategies .
While “in serious trouble” might be a strong characterization, the dollar is facing significant headwinds.
